Carnival Horizon has definitely put an end to that conception. The ship is tasteful and modern from the decks to the cabins and interior spaces. Having sailed on ships across several cruise lines, we always felt that Carnival’s ship stood out with their design themes. On other decks the decorations for the cabins changes, with different carpeting and doors and retro-style pictures of women that look straight out of a Cuban travel poster greeting guests. While the room is small, it still had all the features you would expect in a typical cruise cabin. There was plenty of closet space, a mini-fridge, and an in-room safe. The interior design was basic and tasteful and simply looked like a normal cruise cabin. Of course, sailing in an interior cabin, we weren’t expecting much more than basic accommodations.

An aerobics studio is located in the middle of the gym, closed off from the rest of the activity. Here, you can take any number of fitness classes, including the fun RYDE spinning class, that has passengers hooked up to heartrate monitors, competing against themselves and one another. If you're not a fan of spinning, you can try out classes like boot camp or Pilates. These classes all have fees, starting at $12 and going up from there. (We found the per-class price is actually cheaper than what we'd pay at a gym on land.) While signup isn't required, many classes sell out fast -- some on the first day you board. So, if taking a class is important, visit the fitness center when you first get onboard.
Long-known for an abundance of entertainment, Carnival is not sitting on its laurels with Horizon. The fun onboard starts with SkyRide, the industry's first open-air, pedal-powered aerial ride. Riders have to climb onboard a hanging bike and "cycle" their way around the 800ft suspended track, 150 feet above sea level. The ship has a Japanese specialty restaurant named Bonsai Teppanyaki. The new dining venue is located within the Bonsai Sushi restaurant on Promenade Deck.

Ropes Course + SkyRideOn the top of the ship are two things to do that are perfect for those who want a little thrill. One unique feature on the Horizon is that you can also get a pizza delivered to you. The cost is $5 (even though the pizza is free), but that’s a small price to pay if you don’t feel like traversing the entire ship to get a pie. Tweens, which Carnival Horizon identifies as those ages 12 to 14, have their own hip space, called Circle C, located on Deck 6, midship. The bulk of the space is taken up by chairs and big plasma-screen TVs -- a video-gamers paradise. There's also a movie screening room, with plenty of casual seating. Carnival's partnership with Dr. Seuss adds something special to the ship, beyond simply the cool and colorful WaterWorks.
